Saint Bernard Dog Kennel

italian saint bernard kennels

The love for this beautiful breed was born with the arrival in our family of the first puppy, a beautiful long coat female named Eclisse, which with its sweetness made the passion growing in us until the Saint Bernard dog became a true source of life in which we dedicate completely. The dream of seeing a puppy born and raised with our own hands, following him step by step in its growth, along with the desire to contribute to the development and spreading of this breed so smart, sweet and majestic at the same time, have given rise to the idea of breeding.

This gave birth to the Welsperg Kennel
for the selection of the Saint Bernard dog.

It's not true that...

... Saint Bernards eat enormous amount of food!

They certainly have an heavy weight that must be supported adequately... but the relationship between weight and amount of food is much lower than many other dog breeds, because St. Bernard dogs are quite lazy and they don't make too much physical activity compared to many more energetic dogs (German Shepherd, Husky , etc). An adult St. Bernard dog eats on average between 800 and 1200 grams per day of first class dry food.

... St. Bernards always dribble a lot!

Although it is obvious that it does it in a different way than a chihuahua does, but you should'n be too much influenced by excessive caricatures and comic movies about Saint Bernards. The amount of dribble produced is related to several factors, foremost being the ambient temperature of their habitat, but also proper nutrition.

... St. Bernards live well only at 2000 meters of altitude!

Despite its origins in the great mountain and its natural feeling with snow and low temperatures, the St. Bernard dog has shown a remarkable ability to adapt and now lives in health and wellness in many areas of the world such as Central America, the whole Europe, Australia and even Africa! It is obvious that if we live in a very hot area we  will provide them with fresh water and constant shadow.

... to own a St.Bernard you must have huge spaces!

As already mentioned, these dogs are very quiet and do not need large spaces for constant physical activity as nearly all the smaller races; a good daily walk is enough for our giants and this should never be too long in the first months of growth of the puppies. Our lovely Saint would really prefer to spend his day on the sofa watching a nice movie with us...

Only those who owned a Saint Bernard can really understand how much love this dog is able to give to his family. Hence, you can can only reciprocate him with all your affection.
